Student Guidelines:

- VIEWING ROOMS:
Viewing rooms and materials are available during the posted hours
that Media Services is open, not the hours that the library is
open.
- NO FOOD OR
DRINK
If anyone is observed with food or drink other than water
in the viewing rooms, you will be asked to leave.
- NO CELL PHONES
Please turn off cell phones and pagers while in the viewing
rooms. If you forget and receive a call, immediately ask to
return that call at a more convenient time. If you continue
to talk, you will be asked to leave.
- WEAR HEADPHONES
The viewing rooms are not soundproof. Please remember to plug
in your headphones. If you need assistance, ask a member of
the staff to show you how.
- VISITING
Talking is disruptive to other students. If you need to talk,
please book a library study room instead. Do not have your
friends come to the viewing rooms. Please go outside if you
need to talk to your friends. If you are gone for more than
five minutes, your items will be removed, and you will lose
your place.
- VIEWING MATERIALS
Viewing stations are available for viewing Media Services
materials or materials that have been placed on reserve by
faculty. If you bring in your own material, you must show
proof that it is for a class assignment. You need
a Mt. SAC student I.D. with a sticker for the current semester
for viewing videos, DVDs, laser disks, or listening to CDs
in the viewing rooms. If you need a video for
a presentation, your professor must check out the video for
you to use in class.
- LEAVING PERSONAL
ITEMS IN VIEWING ROOMS
Media Services cannot be responsible for any personal items
left behind in viewing rooms. Your items will be removed if
you are gone for more than five minutes.
- CHECK-OUT PERIODS
During peak usage periods, there is a two-hour limit or the
length of a feature film that is assigned by faculty
for the viewing stations and materials. Although all our materials,
except for CDROMs, are available for in-house student viewing
and listening, students with assignments have first priority.
Viewing stations and materials must be renewed every two hours
or the length of a feature film. You are billed $1.00 per
hour, starting with the first minute it is overdue, for overdue
materials. Remember to check back with the Media Services
front desk to avoid charges.
- GROUP STUDY
There is a limit of one student per viewing station in the viewing
rooms. If there is more than one student who wishes to view a
video, a library study room with a VCR or DVD and TV must first
be checked out from the Check Out Desk (Circulation Desk). A current
Mt. SAC student I.D. must be left at the Media Services front
desk and will be returned when the video is returned. The only
form of identification that will be accepted is a Mt. SAC student
I.D with the current semester sticker.
- CHECKING OUT MATERIALS FOR HOME VIEWING
Only math videos that accompany math textbooks, The 4 Motifs,
Electronic Design Experimenters, Redshift and Anatomy CDROMS,
Child 10 Observation, and Child 10 Interview videos, are available
for student check out for home use. All other materials must be
viewed in either the Media Services viewing rooms or the library
study rooms. You must show a Mt. SAC student I.D. with a sticker
for the current semester before checking out or viewing any of
our materials. No other form of identification is accepted! All
fines must be paid before viewing materials
.
- RETURNING MATERIALS
Media materials may be returned to the book drop that is located
outside on the wall next to the entrance doors to the library.
A drive-up book drop is located behind the Information Booth near
the main College entrance off Grand Avenue. Materials may be placed
in these book drops 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and during
school breaks. They are emptied daily. Overdue materials may be
returned to the Media Services front desk during regular hours
if you wish to pay the overdue fine at the time of return. If
you need to check out other materials, you must have paid the
overdue video fine first and be cleared. Videos and CDROMS not
returned on time will be fined $1.00 a day per item.
- PLACING MATERIALS ON RESERVE
During peak times, we can reserve various titles for you. If you
are more than ten minutes late for your appointed time and there
are others waiting, we cannot hold the material or viewing station
for you.
- LOST OR DAMAGED VIDEOS/CDROMs
You will be charged $35.00 for most lost or damaged videos or
CDROMS plus a $10.00 processing fee. Anatomy Histology CDROMS
cost $20.00 if lost or damaged which includes the processing fee.
- AUDIO VISUAL EQUIPMENT
Students may not check out any cameras or reserve any equipment
for clubs, classroom, or private use. If a club needs equipment,
it must be requested by a faculty advisor. If you need equipment
in a classroom for a presentation, your professor must book the
equipment. Please let your professor know of your needs as soon
as possible. All requests must be in our office BEFORE 10:00 a.m.
of the working day prior to the requested date. For example, Monday
equipment requests must be submitted before 10:00 a.m. on the
previous Friday. Please give your professor enough time to order
equipment for you.
- ELECTRONIC DESIGN EXPERIMENTER
Students taking certain classes in electronics may checkout electronic
design experimenters. These are checked out for 30 days and must
be returned to the Media Services front desk. Please return them
on or before the due date. You will be charged $2.00 each day
they are overdue. Any student that loses or damages an electronic
design experimenter will be charged a $200.00 replacement fee.
