MMI Winter and Summer Retreats

Our MMI student leadership retreats are comprised of minority male students from not only our program, but others such as (EOPS, Aspire/Umoja, Arise/AANAPISI, Dream, Bridge, ACES/TRiO, DSPS, REACH/Foster Youth).  With the theme “I Can, I Will,” training topics have included:  Impostor Syndrome, Locus of Control, Social Capital, Stereotype Threat, Code Switching, and Emotional Intelligence. We also spend the retreat participating in activities such as archery, zip-lining, and workshops. Students enjoy their time spent as well as learn new skills and develop themselves further from the time spent here.

Summer Retreat 2021

Ever been fishing? Many of the brothas at MMI hadn't been before either, so we all hopped aboard a fishing boat, grabbed a pole, and went deep sea fishing.

Winter Retreat 2022

With the theme of Hero's Journey: Embracing Your Own Narrative, MMI students embarked on a trip to UC San Diego where we toured battleships and learned about the Chicano Park Heritage.

Retreat Journal

Every retreat, we create a journal filled with the content of our workshops and discussions throughout our journey. These booklets contain the schedules of our retreats along with discussions on topics, such as Brand Identity and "Who I am Becoming." Although these journals are entertaining keepsakes that we could talk about forever, seeing is believing; provided below is a shortened version of our latest, 2022 winter retreat journal consisting of our workshops, discussions, and itinerary.
